What is Ranks & Ratios?
A personal-finance education and calculator app for U.S. service members.
Who is it for?
Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve (where your branch has them) service members in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard, aged 18 and up. You pick your branch and component when you first open the app.
When does it launch?
No launch date yet. Ranks & Ratios is coming soon on iPhone and Android. Email us to join the waitlist and we will let you know.
How much will it cost?
Planned price at launch: $1.99/month in the U.S., billed through the App Store or Google Play. It renews automatically every month until you cancel, and you can cancel anytime in your Apple Account or Google Play subscription settings. A subscription is required to use the app's features, except the Free government resources section. Prices outside the U.S. may differ and are shown before you buy. For adults 18 and older.
Do I need an account or to link my bank?
No. There is no Ranks & Ratios account (you subscribe through your Apple Account or Google Play), and the app does not connect to bank or brokerage accounts, upload your LES or sign in to myPay. It never asks for your SSN, DoD ID, unit or exact duty station.
Where is my information stored?
On your device. Your branch and answers are saved only on your phone. Trip and TSP numbers you enter aren't saved and never leave your phone unless you use Save a copy to send a summary somewhere else. The app has no ads and no analytics or tracking SDKs.
Does it work without a signal?
Yes. After you install it, the app's features work offline because the GSA standard CONUS rates ship inside the app. Opening a source link or subscribing needs a connection.
Where do the rates come from, and how current are they?
Estimates use published GSA CONUS per diem rates, plus any OCONUS rates and pay amounts you enter yourself. Links to the DFAS pay tables, Defense Travel per diem rates and the Joint Travel Regulations are there for reference only. Rates and rules change, and we may not reflect a change right away. Always check your orders, LES, finance office, or the source agency before you rely on a number.
Does the per diem estimate cover overseas (OCONUS) trips?
Partly. In version 1 you enter the OCONUS rate yourself; a link to the Defense Travel per diem rates page is there for reference. CONUS rates are built in.
Will the app file my travel voucher?
No. You still file through your normal process.
Does Ranks & Ratios tell me what to do with my money?
No. Ranks & Ratios is for education and estimates only. Always confirm with your finance office or your installation's financial counselors.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Cancel anytime. On iPhone, go to Settings > your name > Subscriptions. On Android, open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions. To avoid the next charge, cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date on iPhone, or before your renewal date on Android.
I found a wrong rate or a bug. How do I tell you?
